Memo from ICSC Office of Global Public Policy

The effort to reauthorize the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA), which expires December 31, 2014, has hit a bump in the road in Congress. ICSC and others in the real estate community strongly encourage you to weigh in with your members of Congress about the critical importance of enacting this vital program when lawmakers return in September. By bringing private insurers back into the marketplace following 9/11, TRIA successfully helped the commercial real estate industry secure the insurance coverage needed to safeguard assets and fulfill loan covenants. It remains a strong bulwark against future market paralysis and catastrophic loss should another attack hit the United States.

As a leading member of the Coalition to Insure Against Terrorism (CIAT), ICSC encourages you to take action by contacting your Representative by phone and/or email by clicking here.

Congress cannot delay approving this program or wait until the end of the year.  Please underscore the need to act with your House member today!

Sincerely,
Betsy Laird
Senior Vice President
